The INPEX-led Ichthys LNG Project is no ordinary undertaking—it's essentially three mega projects rolled into one. With expansive onshore and offshore facilities connected by a massive subsea pipeline, this development stands as one of the most ambitious energy infrastructure projects in the world. Located approximately 220 kilometres offshore Western Australia, Ichthys is built around the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in four decades.

At the heart of this colossal operation is the need for robust, reliable, and integrated security and communication systems—an area where Western Advance has delivered in a big way.

Integrated Surveillance from Ship to Shore

At the offshore construction yard, Western Advance implemented a fully interconnected Synectics CCTV platform that ensures seamless surveillance across key assets. This includes bidirectional redundant data storage between the Central Processing Facility (CPF) and the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels. This redundancy ensures continuous monitoring and data integrity, even in the event of system failures or connectivity issues.

Such a setup is critical when dealing with offshore facilities of this scale and complexity. The ability to maintain situational awareness in real-time across vast marine distances not only supports operational efficiency but also enhances safety for all personnel.

Smart Security Onshore

Western Advance's involvement extends to the Ichthys onshore facilities, where it delivered a fully integrated CCTV platform built with layers of redundancy—a necessary approach in mission-critical environments where downtime is not an option.

The onshore security package also includes access control systems, complete with electronic muster management. In the event of an emergency, muster management helps ensure all personnel are accounted for quickly and accurately—a key factor in site safety protocols.

Communication That Saves Lives

In addition to visual surveillance and access control, the Ichthys LNG Project relies on Industronic's Public Address and General Alarm (PAGA) systems. These are deployed across all critical locations, including the CPF, FPSO, and onshore sites. Whether issuing routine announcements or emergency evacuation alerts, a reliable PAGA system is vital to keeping workers informed and safe across such a large-scale project.

A Project of Global Significance - one of the world's largest energy projects.

Still under construction, the Ichthys LNG Project is already ranked among the most significant oil and gas developments in the world. Its scope, complexity, and remote location demand more than just high performance—they require complete integration, constant resilience, and a forward-thinking approach to technology.

Western Advance’s contribution to the project showcases the company’s capability to meet these demands, providing advanced, scalable security and communications systems that are up to the task of supporting one of the world’s largest and most strategically vital energy assets.
